Our yearbook's name, Tatanka, is the Native American word for bison. From the beginning our publication has won numerous awards at the district and state level. In in 2007 and 2008, we received Second Place for Layout Design at the District 6 Journalism Day Conference. In 2009, we received Third Place for Layout Design. In 2008, we submitted our yearbook to Florida Scholastic Press Association for evaluation and received a Silver rating. This was only our second book and the first to be submitted for evaluation. Florida Scholastic Press Association awarded Ari Pena, Editor-in-Chief, the Emerging Young Journalist in 2008.
In 2016 the Florida Scholastic Press Association awarded our yearbook a Silver rating. Galia Long, our current Editor-In-Chief won third place in photography at the FSPA Conference and third place in On the Spot Feature writing in the fall of the 2016-2017 District 6 Journalism Day Conference.
